My Boy and His Books
My Favorite Boy loves to read (this makes me very happy). Lately, he has been reading the Magic Tree House series. On Friday evening, we picked up seven of these books from the library. By Saturday afternoon, he had read them all and was asking, "When are we ever going to the library to pick up more books?" I kindly reminded him that it hadn't even been 24 hours since we were last there.

He took a break from reading on Saturday afternoon for me to take him to Horton Hears a Who at the movie theater. As we were preparing to leave, I asked him to go to the car and buckle up. A few minutes later, I followed him into the garage, put the garage door up, started the car, backed out, put the garage door down, and drove toward the entrance of our subdivision. At that point, I realized that I was in the car ALONE! I returned home quickly. In my mind, I was imagining my Favorite Boy crying frantically because his mother left him. As soon as the garage door was up, I ran into the house to find him.

He wasn't anywhere in the house. I was beginning to worry, and I started yelling his name. I heard a faint response coming from the garage. I ran out there and found him in his dad's vehicle, reading calmly. He was so engrossed his book that when I left, he didn't even notice. I couldn't believe that he didn't notice the garage going from darkness to light or see the car backing out or hear the loud clanging of the garage door opening and closing.

I felt relief when I found him, and also a little bit of joy. My boy loves books! He may be his Daddy's boy when it comes to sports; but when he crawls into bed and asks for just a few more minutes to read, I know he is mine!
