Updated: 9.5
I am excited to say that I am up to 9.5 miles in my half-marathon training. As soon as the kids were off to school on Tuesday, I set out for my long run. This may sound crazy, but I actually enjoy the long runs more than the short ones!
I am now at a distance where I have to refuel (and sometimes find a potty) during my run. This is a learning experience, and I am still figuring out what works best for me. On Tuesday, I used the restroom at my kids' school, and I think I'll leave a water bottle and sports beans there on my next long run (which will be 11 miles!). I can work the timing right to stop at the school about half-way through, giving me the opportunity to get some water, electrolytes, and relief!
My half-marathon is February 27th. I am at the point where I know I can go the distance, but I hope my continued training will help me to finish strong so I can continue to walk for the rest of the day. :)
If you run long distances, feel free to tell me how you refuel. I would love to hear other ideas!
Updated to Add: I now know that long runs are not the most difficult. The difficult run is the short, 30-minute run that comes two days after the long run. As soon as I started running this morning, my legs started screaming. I made it, but it wasn't enjoyable!

Wow! You're doing SOOO awesome with your running! I am totally impressed! As far as refueling, I've tried everything and honestly, my favorite is a mini snickers. :) It really does satisfy! When training for the marathon, I started eating one after about mile 8 and then every 4miles thereafter. For the half marathon I did in October, I only ate one around 8 miles if needed when training. During the actual race I didn't eat anything but just drank gatorade instead of water the whole time. When I train again later this year, I'm going to get a hydration belt. They hold 2 small water bottles and have a tiny zipper pocket for snacks - I have some friends with them and they are wonderfully light weight. You are doing so great! I hope you're proud of yourself!
Way to go! You are doing great!
Awesome job girl! Andy had issues in the beginning with refueling. He eventually decided to run around the house and time his half way point back by the house and left his "refueling" in the mail box so he could grab it and go. He's used raisins, some type of jelly beans, an energy bar and some type of drink. I can't think of what its called... bicyclist drink it and you can buy a big tub of it for much cheaper than other things. Anyway, he's tried several things, but he doesn't use anything any more. He's doing 16-20 miles lately to train for the marathon. I don't know HOW y'all do it!!! :)
